National Skill Development Corporation is a non- profit Public Limited Company incorporated on July 31, 2008 under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1959.
The national policy of skill development and Entrepreneurship 2015 laid out Skill India mission and envisaged the creation of sector skill councils by NSDC
NSDC Board has approved 38 sector skill councils. Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) in one of such sector.
ASDC is promoted by the automobile industry through Society of Indian automobile manufactures, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association and Federation of Automobile dealers association and Government of India represented by Department of Heavy Industry and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The Indian Automobile Industry is expected to employ 36 million people by 2026 to cope up with such a transformation, constant skills, and re-skilling and up skilling of the existing and future work force in extremely important. The new jobs are likely to move away from the traditional manufacturing.
Currently there is mismatch in certain areas between the skills that the industry requires and those possessed by the youth in the country. ASDC is initiating structured reforms to bridge the demand supply mismatch of the skilled work force.
